Anna Maria Hong

Pumped as a golden animal or
breast full of dark light
mineral, let the furrow
of forty winters

lapse. For a season,
did I wax
the tallow. Let
the wane begin.

For forty summers too,
did I hie
my prime and hem
my love to

those zones above and fix
my star.

Anna Maria Hong is the Visiting Creative Writer at Ursinus College and was the 2010-11 Bunting Fellow in Poetry at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study. The recipient of Poetry magazine’s 2013 Frederick Bock Prize, she has recently published poems in venues such as Boston Review, Green Mountains Review, Fence, Drunken Boat, Fairy Tale Review, Unsplendid, Beloit Poetry Journal, Southwest Review, 250 Poems: A Portable Anthology, The Volta, Verse Daily, POOL, Best New Poets, and The Best American Poetry.
